Fun Fall things to do in Medicine Hat

Smaller cities, such as Medicine Hat, have contributed in many ways developing this incredible Canadian country.  If travelling along the Trans Canada Highway in Alberta or have work/business in this south-eastern part of the province, stop, visit, eat, spend some time In Medicine Hat, also known as The Gas City.  Way back in the day, it was nicknamed for the large, natural gas deposits surrounding the city.  Medicine Hat is one of the sunniest Canadian cities with very little precipitation. Even though temperatures drop in the winter, there are plenty of activities for adults and kids.

One cannot miss the world's largest teepee known as Saamus which towers into the sky at 215 feet.  There are 10 storyboards that depict native culture and history.  Also, visit the Medalta which is a national, historical site to learn about Medicine Hat's history.  At one point in time, Medicine Hat supplied clay for Canada's pottery requirements. And definitely visit the world's largest chess board in downtown Medicine Hat which has been certified by the Guiness World Record.

For outdoor fun, go to Police Point Park for snowshoeing or head out to Cypress Hills Provincial Park at Elkwater for cross-country, alpine skiing.  There are also ice-skating trails and a "backyard" luge.  Cypress Hills is also a dark sky preserve which makes great star gazing.
